NOTES ON CONTESTS & EATING COMPETITIONS:

Chili Cook Off

Think you have the best recipe for a kick-ass chili?  Then put it to the test at the Heatwave Chili Cook-Off presented by Firehouse Subs.

Judges will score your chili on the heat to taste ratio as well as overall flavour, texture and aroma. Remember this is a hot sauce show so our judges better break a sweat.

In order to qualify you must bring a family sized crock pot of chili for judging, like enough to share with a few people.  You can plug in a crock pot or utilize a stove at the venue for warming.  A small $3 fee plus an admission ticket to Heatwave required but all entrants win bottles of hot sauce. Note you must pre-register so we know you are coming. Registration now open on the Heatwave ticket page.

Hot Wing Eating Competition Rundown

Think you can stand the heat? Enter the Hot Wing Eating Contest.  Registration for Preliminary Qualifying Rounds now open.

Preliminary Rounds takes place at London Brewing Co-Op on January 26th at 7pm and February 9th at 2pm. The finals will take place at Heatwave Hot Sauce Expo on March 2nd, 2019.  The finals will consist of 8 contestants who were the top competitors in our Preliminary Rounds which will take place at a local restaurant prior to Heatwave.

The goal for each contestant is to eat the most wings tossed in a ridiculously hot sauce.

The contest will consist of 5 rounds in which the sauce on the wings will become increasingly hotter as measured on the Scoville Scale of heat.

Each Round will be completed in a set amount of time.  All wings served to the competitor must be consumed within the time frame to continue to the next round.

Wings will be monitored by our judges to determine if a competitor has eaten all of the meat from the chicken wings. This is to ensure fairness that all competitors are consuming the same amount of hot sauce and meat in each round.

Winner will receive a big glass of milk, a basket of hot sauce and big time bragging rights.

Hot Pepper Eating Competition Rundown

How much hot can you handle on Scoville heat scale?!?  If you consider yourself a fire eater then this is a competition for you!

Competitors will have to eat a single hot pepper in under 1 minute.  Sound easy right? But each round the pepper becomes increasingly hotter and competitors are not permitted to drink liquids.

The winner will be determined by being the last remaining competitor willing to continue in the contest.

  • Round 1: Jalapeño (2,500 - 8,000 SU)
  • Round 2: Hungarian Hot Wax (5,000 – 10,000 SU)
  • Round 3: Lemon Drop (30,000-50,000 SU)
  • Round 4: Lightening Habanero (150,000-325,000 SU)
  • Round 5: Trinadad Moruga Scorpion (1.2 Million SU)

If there is a tie after round 5, remaining contestants will enter into a “Lightning Round” where the contestant who eats the most Trinadad Moruga Scorpions in 30 seconds is the winner.

Pre-registration will take place at Heatwave prior to the scheduled competition start time.
